Akaroa has a long and interesting natural and cultural history, being home to New Zealand’s first British and French early settlers, which can be seen in the well preserved architecture of this harbour town. Nearby Okains Bay Museum has one of the best collections of Maori artefacts in the world, and there are several other excellent museums and displays of Akaroa’s rich and diverse history.
